Concessions/Dibs

Mandatory Concession Stand Staffing

Our largest fundraising dollars come from operating the concession stand at the rink. Each Verona Youth Hockey family is required to complete concession stand hours. Only players 16 – 17 years of age can accompany parents into the concession stand and earn credit towards their required hours. Verona Wildcats Youth Hockey players age 18 and older can work without parental supervision. The hours required vary by level and can be found in the table below.

Scheduling hours in the Concession stand can be done on the Dibs page. Hours are generally completed in two hour shifts. More details can be found farther down on this page.

Hours are per family rather than per skater. Each family will only be required to work the hours of the skater with the most hours required.

The reduced buyout deadline is Friday, October 13, 2023. The reduced buyout cost is $25 per credit hour.  For example, the U8 buyout is $300 and the Bantam buyout is $400. After Friday, October 13, 2023 the cost is $35 per hour. Families not fulfilling their Dibs requirements by March 12, 2024 will be billed at $35 per unearned hour.

Responsibilities and Training

Each family is responsible for the mandatory time commitment at the concession stand. Typical time shifts will be two (2) hours in length. However, you may choose to sign up for consecutive shifts. Only players 16 – 17 years of age can accompany parents into the concession stand and earn credit towards their required hours. Verona Wildcats Youth Hockey players age 18 and older can work without parental supervision. Some end of day shifts (M-F, S) will require 1/2 hour of cleaning after the concession stand has closed to complete the 2 hour shift.

It is important for volunteers to show up on time (unless other arrangements have been made with approval of the Concessions Schedule Coordinator). No shows will not be tolerated and there will be significant penalties associated with missing a shift. An Emergency Replacement Call List is available to help find last minute substitutions. However, it is the complete responsibility of the volunteer family to find/call substitutes when needed.

If you have never worked in the concession stand before, please let the scheduling coordinator know in advance so we can make sure someone is there to assist you. In addition, posted procedures (e.g., startup, cleaning, ...) will be placed within the concession stand and will also be available for download on the right hand side of this page (by shift time slot).

Any parent/player required to work volunteer hours will need to register an account through the VWYH website using the link at the top left area of the page.  If you registered your player online you will already have an account.  Once you have an account you will be able to access the Dibs system and begin signing up for concession hours once they are listed.

Concessions Training Dates

We will be providing concessions training for those of you who are new to having concession/dibs volunteer hours required and for those who chose to have a refresher in working the concession stand.

We will cover the basics of how to run the equipment, as well as stocking, cleaning, running the cash register and shopkeep app, as well as closing shift and nightly deposits.

Please come in for one or all of the following scheduled training sessions.

Online Concession Signup (Dibs)

Use the Online Concessions Program (Dibs) to sign up for your dates and times. This program allows you to select your concession time slots (2 hours per time slot) and review your schedule. The software does allow you to cancel a previous time slot that you have signed up for as long as it is canceled within the cancellation time frame shown in the Dib session details.

No Show Policy

No shows will not be tolerated and there are significant penalties associated with missing a time shift. A penalty of $125 will be assessed to the family for missing a two (2) hour time shift. An Emergency Call list (right side of page) is available to help find last minute substitutions. However, it is the complete responsibility of the volunteer family to find/call substitutes when needed.
